Shri S. S. Mehta
Sreekant Mehta, has successfully commercialized production of
several fruits crops including Banana in Tamil Nadu. He is responsible
for the development of a high-yielding variety viz., ‘Madukar’-
a rare selection from Giant Cavendish. He is the President of
Fruit Growers Association of Tamil Nadu and also the President
of Federation of Amla Growers Associations of India.
Mr. Bhavarlal H. Jain
Bhavarlal Hiralal Jain Chairman, M/s.Jain Irrigation Systems Limited
is responsible for the establishment of agro-based polymer processing
for water management systems. He has demonstrated the cost effective
measures for wasteland development, soil and water conservation,
greenhouse, fertigation, adoption of biopesticides and bio-fertilizers
for effective farm management, and higher productivity for horticultural
crops. ‘Grand Naine’- a tissue cultured banana variety
introduced by him has emerged as the leading variety with banana
farmers in Maharashtra. He is also the receipient of a number
of awards which includes the prestigious award of “Padma
Dr. S. S. Ranade
Shrikant S. Ranade is one of the pioneer in introducing micronutrient
supplements for increasing towards higher yield and quality of
crops. In 1967 he started the ‘Institute for Micronutrient
Technology’ at Pune, towards conducting conducts research
and provides the scientific input. Apart from the technical and
research developments, he has been instrumental in expanding the
scope of the Institute by setting up High Quality Control Standards
for Micronutrient Mixture Fertilizers and Analytical Service Standards
for the Agricultural Sector.
Mr. P.V. Choudhari
Choudhari Pralhad Vithal, Managing Director of Pralsher Bio-product
Pvt Ltd. has developed plantozyme – a natural growth promoter
for “banana”. The products developed by him have all
been well accepted by the farmers. He has established “Leeds
Kem Cultivar” Farm mainly for marketing the agricultural
inputs for the benefit of the farming community.
Mr. Sanjay Chandak
Sanjay Chandak, President of Sheel Bio-Tech Ltd., is responsible
for the production of commercial banana tissue culture plants
in north India. His firm also produces and popularize many tissue
culture plants viz., strawberry, flower crops like gerbera, lilium,
zantedeschia and a several medicinal plants.
Mr. Prakash Nair
Prakash Nair, former Vice-Chairman of Coconut Development Board
and Vice President of Coconut Growers’ Association has made
immense contribution towards export of banana. He has also played
a key role in promoting overseas marketing of horticulture produce
at several international food festivals.
S.K. Gutgutia, professionally, an architect of flower arrangement
and decorations, is a leading floriculture entrepreneur of the
country. His enterprise Florance Flora is the registered distributor
for planting material of some of the leading global players. He
promotes banana production through making available quality planting
Dr. I. Irulappan
renowned teacher and researcher, Dr. Irulappan, from Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University has contributed significantly for the
growth of horticulture in Tamil Nadu. His significant contributions
are development of 7 varieties in fruit crops and 10 varieties
in vegetable crops. He has guided 20 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students
and has published more than 200 research papers, 60 popular articles,
five bulletins. He has also contributed five chapters in books.
Mr. S.N. Choudhari
Mr. Sharad N. Choudhari, Managing
Director of M/s Leeds Kem, Jalgaon. is a banana grower turned
entrepreneur with immense contribution towards the improvement
of agricultural crops including banana and is regarded as the
farmer’s friend. He is well known leading entrepreneur in
“Banana” productioin in Jalgaon.
Mr. Manmohan Attavar
Mr. Manmohan Attavar, founded
the Indo-American Hybrid Seeds in 1965 for the production of vegetable
hybrid seeds, ornamental plants and banana. His service for the
cause of horticulture is exemplary not only in Kamataka but across
the country. He introduced the concept of green house cultivation
for many of ornamental plants and has popularised in-vitro plants
of banana and many ornamentals.
Mr. B.K. Mehta
Mr. B.K. Mehta, a Planter-cum
businessman after his graduation in Agriculture, from Naini, Allahabad,
joined his family business of Tea plantations. Presently, he is
the Managing Director of Pachura Estates Ltd., and Meh Flowers
Pvt. Ltd., Coonoor. A visionary entrepreneur, Mr. Mehta considers
horticulture a tool for improving the economy of farming community.
Mr. P.S. Pagrut
Mr. Prahlad Shaligram Pagrut
was bom on 14 th May, 1953 at Nashik, Maharashtra. He completed
his Post graduation in Agriculture. He has 15 years experience
in extension services and worked with the Extension Services at
M/s. Ranadey Micronutrients Pvt. Ltd.
Prof. B. Sivarama Krishnan
B. Sivarama Krishnan, an educationist, hails from traditional
agricultural family in Edayathumangalam village in Trichy district.
As an educationist, he is running five educational institutions
in Trichy. He is also member of the Managing Committee of several
organisations including NRC for Banana. Mr. Sivarama Krishnan
wants to develop banana cultivation as an industry in Trichy.
His vision is to make NRCB a Center of excellence.
Mr. N.R. Sundaram
Shri N.R. Sundaram, a well known
planter after graduation he opted to be an enterpreneur and established
Beena Nursery which has performed well and is catering to the
needs of customers both in India and abroad. A commercial Tissue
Culture Laboratory established at Nachalur, Trichy is producing
orchids and ornamental plants.
Dr. P.R. Mahajan
Dr. P.R. Mahajan, a well known
banana researcher has served as a researcher and teacher in MPKV.
After long experience in teaching and research for 36 years, he
joined Jain Irrigation Ltd., Jalgoan. Many of his findings have
resulted in improving the production and productivity of banana.
His research experience on banana has become a boon to banana
farmers in Jalgaon.
Dr. Samuel Rosanglura
A post graduate in horticulture.
Dr. Rosanglura is presently Director of Horticulture, Government
of Mizoram and is engaged in executing the horticulture development
programmes in the state.
Dr. N. Bharathi
A young entrepreneur Dr. Bharathi
has been engaged in providing support to the horticulture industry
through making available quality planting material raised through
tissue culture. He has been associated with the leading commercial
time culture companies and has developed protocols for micropropagation
of a range of horticultural crops.
